本课程的开始阶段从英语写作的基础讲起，通过选词和造句的讲解，旨在为学生的英语写作打下坚实的语法基础；之后过渡到段落写作，段落写作旨在教会学生如何提出明确观点并进行具体、充分的论证；最后过渡到学期的核心部分，即五段式论文写作，通过讲解及例文分析，学生们能够掌握各类论述文章如对比、因果分析、下定义及议论文写作的基本框架，能够写出结构合理、条例清晰、论述恰当的五段式文章。
